Nature Preserves

In addition to our staffed sites, the following preserves protect some of the region’s most beautiful natural spaces while providing opportunities for learning and conservation. Our preserves protect the region’s most beautiful natural spaces while giving visitors places to hike, observe wildlife, and learn about conservation.

Our Preserves Include:

  • Bucktoe Creek Preserve – A private natural area near Kennett Square, PA, featuring birding programs and research access through DelNature.
  • Flint Woods Preserve – Old-growth hardwood forest and rare plant habitats in northern Delaware.
  • Isaacs Tract – Atlantic white cedar swamp with a boardwalk trail and thriving bird life near Abbott’s Mill.
  • Isaacs-Greene Preserve – Coastal plain woodlands and wetlands supporting owls, warblers, and beavers.
  • Marvel Saltmarsh Preserve – Accessible boardwalk and salt marsh wildlife near Slaughter Beach.
  • Middle Run Valley Natural Area Park – Reforested parkland in New Castle County, home to miles of trails and over 190 bird species.
